The 2018 G80 receives a new Sport trim with a new 3.3-liter turbocharged V-6. Also, the G80 enters the new model year with an updated 8-speed automatic transmission, refreshed headlights, a tweaked lower front grille, updated front and rear fascias, a new standard 18-inch wheel design, new instrument cluster, shift knob, analog clock, and premium speaker design. Additionally, Genesis adds newly available genuine matte wood finishes, an additional USB charging port, added Pedestrian Detection and Driver Attention Alert as standard safety features, and improved interior noise levels with added NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) cancellation enhancements.
The G80 is currently the entry-level model of the newly created Genesis premium brand, slotting before the larger and more expensive flagship G90 model. Before it became its own premium brand, the Genesis sedan was Hyundai’s flagship model. Expect a smaller and less expensive Genesis sedan possibly called the G70 in a couple years.
The 2018 Genesis G80 sedan comes standard with a 3.8-liter V-6 that produces 311 hp and 293 lb-ft of torque. The top-of-the-line engine is a 420-hp, 383-lb-ft of torque 5.0-liter V-8, and the new G80 Sport model is powered by a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 that churns out 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. The G80 sports an eight-speed automatic transmission that routes power to an all-wheel drive system or to the rear wheels.
The Genesis Sport model comes standard with a 9.2-inch touchscreen navigation system, multi-view camera, full LED headlights with Dynamic Bending Light, wireless device charging, and a Lexicon Premium Sounds System with 17 speakers, QuantumLogic Surround Sound and Clari-Fi music restoration technology. Continuous Damping Control suspension, dark chrome trim with copper-colored accents, leather sport seats with copper contrast stitching, carbon fiber interior trim with aluminum sport pedals, and 19-inch dark alloy wheels are some available options. The Sport model comes in Casablanca White, Caspian Black, and Himalayan Gray and in two exclusive colors: Polar Ice and Sevilla Red. Genesis owners can now use Amazon Alexa to send remote commands such as remote start with climate control and the remote door lock/unlock using Connected Services or an Alexa-enabled device.
The 2018 Genesis G80 comes standard with a host of advanced safety features including Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Driver Attention Alert, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-traffic Alert, Lane Keep Assist, and Lane Departure Warning. Adaptive cruise control with Stop/Start driving, High Beam Assist, a rearview camera, a haptic steering wheel, and Pre-Active Seatbelts are additional standard features. LED headlights with Dynamic Bending Light and a multi-view camera are some available safety features.
All Genesis models come available with Genesis Connected Services that consists of Destination Search powered by Google, Car Finder, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, and Stolen Vehicle Recovery. Additional services include SOS Emergency and Automatic Collision Notification.
The 2018 G80 offers 3 years/36,000 mile complimentary normally scheduled maintenance, valet service, Genesis Connected Services, SiriusXM Travel Link (traffic data), and Map Care (annual navigation map updates).
