The ongoing Altima has been released back in 2012. However, the car is actually based on the same D-platform as the previous model. This gave it less than ideal performance. Its interior was never as big as it should have been and its engines have been among the less powerful out there. A new model is expected to solve most of these issues. Not that long ago the Vmotion 2.0 concept has been released and it seems it previews the upcoming 2019 Nissan Altima. Even though we would have loved a rear wheel drive Nissan, it seems the upcoming car will remain front wheel drive.
This time around the Altima is expected to use Renault’s much newer CMF-CD chassis. This is a modular platform which would allow Nissan to give the car a much better internal layout. The car is expected to follow the dimensions of the concept. The 112.2 inch long wheelbase as well as the 74.4 inches of width are expected to be seen on the production model with minimal differences.
This would mean a more than 2 inches improvement over the older model. The length might decrease in order to allow Nissan to give the Altima a much sportier design than before. Considering how good things went with the Maxima, we would expect the pricing scheme of the Altima to remain the same as before.
So far the Altima has been available with either a 2.5 liter inline 4 with 182 horsepower or with a 270 horsepower 3.5 liter naturally aspirated V6. Both of them are quite average in terms of power delivery and due to the standard CVT the smaller 2.5 liter engine might feel under-powered at times. The 2019 Nissan Altima might make the move to turbocharged power.
